About

The Year of Sarah Joy

In 2014 I solo vacationed to Rio de Janiero, Brazil during Carnival. Every day in Rio I enjoyed new experiences, engaged in real conversations, laughed with new people, and felt incredible happiness for the opportunity to live with less structure and more freedom. One day, back in Minneapolis on the YMCA elliptical at 9:00pm feeling drained after a full day of work and night class, I realized I wanted to feel the happiness of my Rio vacation every day. With that realization in mind, I decided to travel for one year. To achieve my goal, I spent two years planning, discussing, saving, learning and preparing for my career break. Until, finally, The Year of Sarah Joy began in August 2016.

Me

Greetings! I am Sarah Joy. I love snow and Minneapolis. When given the choice, I choose reading over watching. I am a current events follower, Spanish speaker, meal planner, bike commuter, wine drinker and I will do (almost) anything for a homemade monster cookie. In the real world, I worked for six years at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities as an academic adviser for MBA students and a financial aid counselor.

Hi Sarah, Thank you so much for doing your blog and adding all of the fab photos. You have no idea how much you have helped me as in one of your photos in Cordoba, Argentina the is of a house with Edelwiess written on the front. I have been looking for this house for many weeks. It belonged to my Grandma’s family back in 1920’s and was their holiday home. Their main home was in Buenos Aires. I have may photos of her and the family in front of the house and in the garden.
